Road Cycling - Cyclo-Sportive

Broadway House promoters of the Cheddar Challenge are delighted to announce details of the Cheddar Cyclo Sportive which takes place on the 20th & 21st September 2008.

This year will mark 21 years of riding and racing at the popular Somerset venue. The focus of the organiser’s launch of this event is to cement this fixture in to the annual Sportive calendar.

For Saturday a 110k route has been designed to give riders a great view of the mendips with some great climbs, views, then descents. The option is given to rider to ride either or both of the days events.

For Sunday Paul Baker has designed a route that gives the rider an opportunity to "bail" after the first 100k circuit or to continue the second circuit of 60k. The first 100k is relatively flat with a few "tasters" but the second 60k is about maximum output with searing climbs and fast descents, no cheesy capers at Cheddar.

Broadway House is no stranger to major biking fixtures. Cheddar is the spiritual home of mountain biking with an unmatched pedigree. It is our intention that this event shall live up to those expectations. If so, and it is a success, this will provide a sustainable foundation on which the event can grow for the future.

The usual route map, medical cover, parking, feed stops, electronic timing, and insurance will be provided. Details about the route will be posted on this website including total altitude, difficulty rating and max gradient. It is our intention to make this a memorable ride that is why this year we are limiting the number of riders. That way each year we will get better.

Broadway House is a holiday park we have all the facilities needed to host this event i.e.; showers, bar/café, shop, pool, and playgrounds etc for the patient family whilst they wait for mum and dad, or both. Accommodation is available either in our holiday homes or bring your own touring caravan or tent.
